Copperton became a metro township in January 2017.
Copperton is located at the base of the Oquirrh Mountains in the southwest portion of the Salt Lake Valley.
Founded in 1903, Kennecott's Bingham Canyon Mine
is one of the top-performing mines in the world and has provided more wealth for the state of Utah than any other company. The mine operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
- Copperton Park is a beautiful park, filled with 100-year-old trees in the quaint town of Copperton.
- Copperton was established by the Utah Copper Company in 1926 to provide housing and a “model City” for its employees. It emerged as a “showplace for company-subsidized family life.”
- Copperton is the only mining town remaining for the Bingham Canyon Mine after Lark was torn down in 1980. Currently, only a handful of residents work for the mine.
