Magna Metro Township received America Walks 2022 Community Change Grant

Magna Mantle Park

Magna, Utah. The Greater Salt Lake Municipal Services District (GSLMSD) announces that the Magna Metro Township received a 2022 Community Change Grant facilitated by America Walks. The MSD will work with community partners, including Magna Main Street Steering Alliance and  Salt Lake County Economic Development.

American Walks thanked the community of Magna for their interest in the 2022 Community Change Grants. They announced Magna Metro Township is the recipient of one of the 15 grants sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control. America Walks received an overwhelming response to the announcement and received over 200 applications with many inspiring projects. They said: "It was wonderful to see the response from our network of passionate walking champions and we are looking forward to working with you in 2023 to bring your project to fruition."

This $1,500 grant will be used to create a design for Magna Mantle Park, a 200 sq ft. pocket park located in the heart of Historic Magna Main, adjacent to the Empress Theater. Small spaces like this can provide a social eddy that allows pedestrians to exit the flow of the pedestrian throughway to sit, rest, shuffle and organize goods, wait for friends to catch up, or sit and watch day-to-day traffic move by. To accomplish this, the current park needs updating. The grant funds will be used to design and implement the park project. To accomplish this for Magna, given the funding available, the strategy will be to find an appropriate collaboration with the LAEP of USU. This may mean a single student designer recommended by professors or collaboration with an entire studio. The project will promote the redevelopment of the space and set the tone for streetscape material and furnishing updates for Historic Magna Main.
