Emigration Canyon and the Unified Fire Authority held its annual Fire Day on Saturday, May 7. Mayor Joe Smolka cooked the largest pancakes you have ever seen for the community members.
There was a line of kids and adults eager to taste the blueberry and/or chocolate chip pancakes. For the kids, Mayor Smolka made Mickey Mouse pancakes and pancakes in the shape of the letter of the children’s first names. The event was well attended, with more 250 people in attendance.
The MSD set up a booth inside the bay at the Emigration Canyon Fire Station and handed out an Emergency Preparedness Guides and a quick reference card to contact the MSD for service questions. Other booths were on sustainability, preparedness, Push to Survive, reflective house signs, water, environmental concerns, wilderness fire prevention, fire risk, and preparing your home to guard against a wildfire.
Outside of the fire station, kids got to use hoses to put out pretend fires and some even got to learn how to use a fire extinguisher to put out a real fire.
