Engineering Division
The MSD Engineering Division provides high-quality municipal engineering services to plan, design and construct quality public infrastructure to meet the needs of the citizens of the MSD communities:
- Copperton
- Emigration Canyon
- City of Kearns
- Magna City
- Town of Brighton
- White City
- Unincorporated Salt Lake County
The Engineering Division is responsible for constructing new infrastructure within the public right-of-way, which includes plan review for new private developments, design and construction management of city / town capital improvement projects, issuance of right-of-way, encroachment, and excavation permits, and providing construction inspection services.

- Offer excellence in engineering, plan review, and construction services in a professional and timely manner to engineers, developers, contractors, and residents doing work in the MSD member communities.
- Provide residents with the highest degree of efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and customer service.
- Ensure the preservation and performance of the roads in each MSD community.
- Create innovative transportation systems and work to eliminate congestion.
- Implement each municipality’s Complete Street Plans.
GIS Requirements
Implementing a GIS Data Standard facilitates data sharing, integration, and compatibility within the GIS system for the MSD. These standards provide GIS data guidelines for MSD Engineering and Flood Control Engineering in addition to policy 10-13, “Standards for Geographic Information Systems.”
There are only four MSD cities that have GIS requirements: Magna City, Copperton, Brighton, and unincorporated Salt Lake County. Here is a link to each municipality's adopted ordinances.
