Kearns ADU Ordinance Revision
On November 28th, 2022, Kearns adopted an amendment to its Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Ordinance. The amendment reduces required setbacks for existing accessory structures (such as garages) that are later converted to ADUs. The intent of the ordinance is to provide Kearns residents a reasonable opportunity to build accessory dwelling units, while protecting and preserving the public health, safety, and general welfare. The amendment supports the vision of Kearns' Moderate Income Housing Plan, and can be read by visiting the Utah Public Notice Website.
The MSD is continuing to assess ways to improve the ADU permitting process. We encourage residents in any MSD-served area to take the brief 2023 ADU Survey.
Comprehensive Code Re-write
On June 12th, 2023, the Kearns Council unanimously voted to adopt revisions to Titles 18 and 19 of the Municipal Code. These Titles set the standards for zoning and subdivisions in Kearns.
